Dave & Bev Kidley set up Morning Star (Salisbury)
as a charity in July 2002 to reach some of the most needy people in our Cities.
Between them they have over 30 years experience, working with people who are hurting and broken hearted, due to addictive lifestyles, broken relationships, unemployment, homelessness and mental health issues.
Their previous experience ranges from working as support workers, up to Senior Management post as Chief Executive in a well known National Supported Housing organisation.
“our heart has always been for people who are disadvantaged and marginalised whatever the reason. We had worked in various settings, but just wanted to get back to working at ground level with the people who really needed us” says Bev
Morning Star (Salisbury) is not connected to any one church, but the Christian Faith has a strong influence on the work of the charity and as such encourages partnership with churches and other organisations in the City.
In September 2003 “The Banquet Run” was set up to help people who were struggling with issues, e.g. lack of money, homelessness, loneliness etc. The aim was to provide free, good quality fresh food, both hot and cold. Taking food onto the streets of Salisbury meeting people on their territory rather than expecting them to come to us. As well as the food we wanted to offer the hand of friendship and/or comfort In December 2003 the charity started to give out the first Christmas Hampers to those in need in the community, this has now grown to be a regular annual service and has expanded into our work in the community.
