As we look back over the last six months of 2006, we are amazed at all that God has done. FROM CRISIS TO NEW LIFE In October, Salisbury District Council agreed to help us with some “pump priming” funding towards our three new projects a total amount of £41, 518 over the next two and a half years starting from October 2006. Also a capital sum of £2,800.00 towards a people carrier. This figure is about a third of the total amount needed to run our three new projects and so we will continue to look for other funding to go with the above, this could be in the form of funding from other trusts and charities, fundraising activities, and regular/one of financial sponsorship from individuals or companies. We Praise God for His provision, He never lets us down.
The three new projects are:
1) THE RESIDENTIAL PROJECT (THE NEW LIFE CENTRE) We have residential beds available for people who are serious about turning their lives around. The aim of the residential programme is to empower the resident to make positive life choices with regard to personal relationships, training, employment, leisure pursuits, enhancing self esteem, confidence.
To enable people to make a positive contribution to themselves and to society, equipping them to reach toward social and economic independence.
We have three places available for the Residential programme, two of which are being part funded by Salisbury District Council. The residential project will provide:
- Help to get benefits in place
- A home for those who are homeless
- 24 hour intensive support in a family orientated unit, for the first stage of the programme
- Therapeutic environment, in order to promote opportunity for client to look at and deal with pivotal issues in their lives with the help of staff.
- Informal work situation,(unpaid) enabling and promoting work disciplines and ethos, character development, relational development, social skills, positive attitude, trustworthiness, self esteem, concern for others and a sense of responsibility.
- Support in attending appointments with other local agencies. i.e. Probation, ADAS etc.
2) Daily Placement Programme To begin with there will be four places a week on the daily programme. The programme will be 12 months long, with the option for people to stay on for a further 3 months. Each day will start at 10.00a.m. and finish at 4.00 p.m. The daily programme will provide:-
the same therapeutic environment as the residential programme, but not on such an intensive scale. It will provide an opportunity to become part of a team, helping other people in the community, by helping in an organic growing vegetables to be used at the Banquet Run and those in the local community who struggle to make ends meet.
For those who are trying to stop drug and alcohol habits an opportunity to be in a safe place away from the pressures and temptations while they get their life back on track.
3) Emergency Accommodation We will have two beds for emergency accommodation. This is ideal for people who are vulnerable and need accommodation quickly. The emergency accommodation would be for a maximum of three nights.
As a Christian Organisation all the projects are open to anyone from any faith and also to those of none.
ANSWER TO PRAYER For three or four months we were praying for a Polytunnel, so that the organic gardening could continue in a warm environment. The total needed was £2000.00 a lot of money by anyone’s standards. As we began to pray we knew that the Lord was on the case. Late September we were introduced to a couple who was very interested in the work of the charity. Having looked around the project, the gentleman told us to order the Polytunnel and he would pay for it. The Polytunnel was very quickly ordered . It measures 40ft x 14ft. and will provide an alternative place for people to work if the weather is cold or wet as well as prolonging the growing period.

NEWSLETTERS At the end of September we released our first Newsletter, covering very similar news to the website, but primarily for those without internet access. This has increased our ability to keep more people informed of all that’s happening in the work of the charity, and has received a lot of interest from those who previously had no knowledge of the work of the charity.
CHRISTMAS HAMPERS This Christmas we again joined forces with the Basket Brigade, to provide Christmas hampers for people in the community who needed some support, encouragement or just someone to show that people cared this Christmas. The results were fantastic, many recipients were near to tears when they received their hampers, for many it was the blessing that actually made their Christmas. A big thank you to Steve and Hazel for all their hard work in fundraising for the hampers and pulling the whole event together. We would also like to thank all the team who turned up on the Saturday before Christmas to put the hampers together and then delivered them all round the Salisbury area.
MORNING STAR IN CHARITY WINDFALL Each year HQ Land Command based at Wilton in Wiltshire holds a Christmas hamper raffle with the aim of raising money for local charities. This year it was decided that Morning Star charity would be the recipient..
All the branches of Land Command pulled together to provide 56 hampers which were raffled between the staff and the proceeds from which contributed to the final amount.

Many special thanks goes to Mo Malcom and her staff for organising the event which was a huge success. In addition, the charity’s needs were highlighted by Mrs Gill Nevill of Field Army Branch who we thank for her support.
On the 14th December we went to Wilton to meet some of the people who had organized and taken part in the event our hearts were really touched to be with so many caring friendly people who had worked so hard to raise money for the people we serve, it was hard not to shed tears of joy, as we received a cheque for £1,537.44 see picture below, from left to right: Dave and Bev Kidley, Colonel Bill Farrington (Colonel Support) and Mrs Mo Malcom (event organiser)

A NEW YEAR
As we write this update January is almost at an end, how time flies. We are so aware that time is a precious commodity, and we need to be using it wisely. This year we look forward to seeing many new people coming through the projects and finding a new way of life. A Life where they are free from all that has held them in the past.
Already this year we have had a lad make use of the crisis bed. Within six days he had secured employment, found his own faith in God and moved on in his life. Things don’t always work out that quickly and sometimes we are just the first step forward in peoples new life, but if this is a sign of things to come this year, we look forward to the coming weeks and months with excitement and expectation.
We would like to thank everyone who has supported the work both practically helping in many different areas and financially, for those who have committed to giving financially on a regular basis, and those who have given on a one off basis, your love and care has helped to save many a person on the streets of Salisbury in more ways than one. For all those who have prayed for us as we seek to serve our friends on the streets and now in the residential programmes, we couldn’t do this work without all of you. Our hearts are stirred and moved by God’s Love and Grace. without Him, we could do nothing, but we know that with His help there is plenty more to do.
We pray that each and everyone of you will be touched by the Love of God in a special way this year, that you may come to know Him in a more personal way and all that He has planned for you.
Dave and Bev Kidley
