“Arise shine for your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For Behold the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people: But the Lord will arise over you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, And the Kings to the brightness of your rising. Lift up your eyes all around and see: They gather together, they come to you. Your sons shall come from afar, And your daughters shall be nursed at your side.
Then you shall see and be radiant. And your heart shall swell with joy, Because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you. The multitude of camels shall cover your land” Isaiah ch.60 vs 1-6
As the weather becomes cooler and wetter, our hearts are again touched by the need of those people living on the streets. We have always aimed at providing the best quality food possible, to feed those people we serve on the streets, whether they live on the streets or in the hostels. The last couple of months we have seen the Lord move mightily both in practical ways as well as spiritually. We have been praying for an increase of finances to come into the charity, so that we can expand and provide more food for more people and at the same time be able to give out good quality food. Our God is so good at working things out, that sometimes the answer doesn’t always come in the form that we expect.
This month two new companies have contacted us and said they will help us with food food for the Banquet Run and those we work with in the community who struggle to make ends meet. Both companies produce very high quality food, which in turn will release some of our finances to be routed elsewhere.
People continue to be touched by the Holy Spirit. One lass whom we will refer to as Lisa has come to the Banquet Run for food on odd occasions throughout the last year, both her and her boyfriend have a history of drug addiction. Lisa has recently come to a couple of meetings we hold at a hall in Salisbury. The last time we saw her she made a special effort to catch us before she left the meeting she said “Thank you so much for telling me about these meetings, I feel like I have found something that I have been looking for all my life” Another lad whom we have built up a friendship with over the last year whom we will refer to as Joe, has also been attending the meetings, he has never openly responded to anything that has been said, but a couple of days ago we saw him in town and he said “I don’t know what has come over me, but I have found myself asking God for forgiveness” Hallelujah we should never underestimate what God will do.
A couple we have been working with over the last few months who became Christian s a few months ago, decided to claim their benefits as a couple rather than individually in order to be upfront and honest. Due to their circumstances this meant that their income dropped considerably. As we spent time with them it emerged that one of them had £1400 debt/arrears from a few years ago that was causing an certain amount to be automatically deducted from their benefits. We shared with them some of the miracles that God had done in our finances and in the lives of other people we knew and encouraged the couple that they had done the right thing, and that God always honours those who honour him. About a week later we saw the couple again, the lass was skipping towards us saying, “you never guess what has happened? We had a letter today from one of the benefit agencies, saying that they were going to completely wipe out the £1400 arrears, we don’t have to pay any more back” Our God is real He will never let us down.
The Great South Run Sunday October 10th was a bright day, although a little nippy down by the coast. Dave and I set of for Portsmouth to see out friend Chris Wells run in “The Great South Run”.
Thanks Chris for all your hard work before and during the race and for caring enough to do something positive to help Morning Star help meet the needs of the poor and needy. You’re a Star !
